Kendrick Lamar Biography in the Works

Posted by Unknown on 1:48 PM

A Kendrick Lamar biography is headed to bookstores.

Writer Marcus J. Moore, a senior editor at Bandcamp, has announced that he is penning The Butterfly Effect: How Kendrick Lamar Ignited the Soul of Black America for Touchstone Books.

The upcoming release doesn’t appear to be authorized or affiliated with Top Dawg Entertainment. Moore called it a “cultural biography of Kendrick Lamar.” He also promised that it “will detail his rise to rap superstardom.”

Moore spoke with Pigeons & Planes about the forthcoming work. “My book details the artist’s coming of age as an MC, how he helped resurrect two languishing genres (bebop and jazz), his profound impact on a racially fraught America, and his emergence as the bonafide King of Rap,” he said.

Although it might be an unofficial bio, Moore said Lamar’s team is aware of the book. “Kendrick’s team is aware of my intention to write this book,” he explained. “I have interviews in place with people in and around the environment in which he grew up, as well as those who’ve helped him create music along the way.”

Kendrick Lamar released his platinum major-label debut good kid, m.A.A.d. city in 2012. He followed it up with the chart-topping and platinum To Pimp a Butterfly in 2015. Last year, he released the 2x-platinum DAMN.

King Kendrick extended his reign this year. He curated and produced Black Panther: The Album, which also topped the Billboard 200. He is now gearing up for “The Championship Tour” with SZA, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, SiR, and Lance Skiiiwalker.
