Pennsylvania Governor Supports Meek Mill’s Release From Prison

Posted by Unknown on 12:48 PM

Did Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf just co-sign the “Free Meek Mill” movement?

On Friday (March 23), the governor came out in support of the Philly rapper’s release from prison. “I support D.A. Larry Krasner’s position in the case of Robert Williams (Meek Mill),” he tweeted. “Our criminal justice system is in need of repair. That’s why my admin has made efforts to invest in programs that divert individuals from the system, improve public safety, and promote fairness. But more needs to be done.”

He continued, “I am calling on the PA General Assembly to pass the Justice Reinvestment II reforms to the criminal justice system, which help address issues from arrest, trial, sentencing, incarceration, to post-release.”

Wolf’s statement references Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, who recently said he would be “unopposed” to Meek’s release on bail. Krasner’s office previously said there was a “strong likelihood” that Mill’s case would be overturned following a corruption scandal.

Mill’s team also recently asked the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to remove Judge Genece Brinkley from his case.

“There’s brothers locked down that did nothing to be here but piss off people like Brinkley,” he said. “I want to speak on this system and what it does to black people – on both fucking sides of the fence.”

Meek’s next hearing is scheduled for April 16.
