Frank Ocean Sues ‘Blonde’ Producer Om’Mas Keith

Posted by Unknown on 5:42 PM

After winning a defamation lawsuit against his father, Frank Ocean is embroiled in another legal battle, this time over work on his acclaimed Blonde LP.

The soulful crooner says he hired producer Om’Mas Keith to master songs from the album in 2014, but he is now suing Keith in order to block him from getting songwriting credits, according to TMZ.

Keith reportedly claimed to have co-written 11 songs from the album, including “Pink + White” and “Ivy,” in order to receive royalties. Ocean says that Keith was paid to master the songs, but that he didn’t contribute any songwriting.

Keith was credited for his work on Ocean’s 2012 album channel ORANGE, for which he won the Best Urban Contemporary Grammy in 2013. They worked together extensively on that project, according to several reports. “In June 2011, Ocean tapped Om’Mas Keith, another producer in Los Angeles, to help him turn his sketches into major-label-release-ready album cuts,” reads a New York Times profile on Ocean. “They decided to focus first on vocals — leads, harmonies — and then they went back into the studio to perfect the music.”

The duo reportedly worked together on Endless, as well.

A rep for Ocean has responded to reports of the legal matter in a statement to The FADER: “A complaint has been filed against Om’Mas Keith who has falsely stated to have written certain songs which appear on the album Blonde. These claims are untrue and this issue is being dealt with by litigators.”
