Nispey Hussle Mural Restored After Being Vandalized

Posted by Unknown on 2:57 PM

A mural honoring Nipsey Hussle has been restored after being defaced.

Over the weekend, video footage surfaced showing a woman spray painting disrespectful imagery including a penis and cherries on the wall at a skate park in Hartford, Conn. The vandal, later identified as Kaitlyn Renee, posed for a selfie in front of the damage and even plugged her Facebook page during the phone-filmed incident.

But just one day later, the damaged mural was restored to its original state by local rapper and school teacher Joey Batts. “It was defaced yesterday,” Batts told Fox 61. “A couple of people got word of it and I just thought it was best to fix it.”

Batts also added his own message next to the portrait of the Crenshaw legend: “The marathon continues.” The mural was originally painted by Connecticut artist Corey Pane shortly after Nipsey’s death on March 31.

Other people were present as Renee defaced the mural, but it appears that no one tried to stop her. According to Hartford Police, the skate/graffiti park has no rules regarding pre-existing graffiti and or murals and no charges will be pressed.
