Drake Pays Tribute to Nipsey Hussle at London Show

Posted by Unknown on 1:51 PM

Drake is honoring the life and legacy of Nipsey Hussle.

During his show in London on Monday night, Drizzy paid homage to the slain Crenshaw rapper, who was killed during a shooting in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Speaking to the crowd at London’s O2 Arena during his “Assassination Vacation Tour,” Drake praised his late friend. “Somebody that provided for his people. Somebody that always treated you with respect when he saw you. Somebody that commanded respect when he walked in the room,” he said.

He dedicated the show to the 33-year-old MC, while encouraging fans to not take life for granted. “I really want to do this shot for Nip tonight and I just want everybody to look around and be grateful and happy that we’re all here together alive and well ’cause life can end at any moment and I just want to say I love you. I’m thankful to be here with you tonight,” he said as photos of Nipsey were shown on the giant screens.

Drake, who collaborated with Nipsey on 2013’s “Killer,” previously penned a heartfelt tribute to Nipsey. “My whole energy is just at a low right now hearing this,” he wrote on Instagram. “We just linked for the first time in years and said we were gonna do a new song this summer cause it had been too long. You were having the best run and I was so happy watching from distance fam nobody ever talks down on your name you were a real one to your people and to the rest of us. I’m only doing this here cause I want the world to know I saw you as a man of respect and a don. Rest easy my g.”

The hip-hop community has been mourning the death of the Grammy-nominated rapper. In addition to Drake, artists including Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Nas, and Cardi B have shared their thoughts and prayers on social media.

Nipsey was shot and killed outside his Marathon Clothing store on Sunday. The Los Angeles Police Department has named 29-year-old Eric Holder as a suspect in the homicide.
