Iggy Azalea Says Quavo Was the Only Rapper Who Supported Her

Posted by Unknown on 1:42 PM

Iggy Azalea and Quavo collaborated on “Savior,” but the Australian rapper says that the Migos star was also a savior in other ways. Speaking with Billboard, I-G-G-Y revealed that he was one of three stars who didn’t abandon her when times got rough.

“If I’m being honest, the only people who have been there for me are Quavo, Kesha, and Demi [Lovato],” she explained. “And everyone else has pretty much acted like I don’t exist.”

Skeptics claimed Quavo only joined “Savior” as a money grab, but Iggy says that’s far from true. “He gains nothing for being on the song,” she said. “Everybody’s probably just like, ‘Oh, but she sucks,’ or ‘Oh, he just did it for money.’ No, he hit me up and we sent music back and forth, and he wanted to do that song.”

Earlier this year, Quavo spoke about the collaboration on “The Breakfast Club.” “Quavo making music,” he said. “They like the wave. We the wave.”

During the interview, Iggy also spoke about leaving Def Jam. “They were being very supportive and doing the best that they could do. But creatively, I don’t think we were able to understand what it was that I was trying to do moving forward, and I felt a little bit like what they would’ve loved to do is recreate The New Classic,” she added. “The only pressure was to keep making pop music when I wanted to get back [to] recording. I said, ‘I don’t want to make pop music.’ I remember sitting there saying to somebody with the label, whose name I won’t mention, ‘I don’t want to make music for your 10-year-old daughter anymore.'”

Surviving the Summer is due later this year.
