Migos’ ‘Culture II’ Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200

Posted by Unknown on 11:19 AM

Migos is back on top. The trio of Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff has just earned its second Billboard 200 No. 1 with Culture II. Moving 199,000 equivalent album units in its first week of availability, the project catapults the crew into a distinguished class of hip-hop groups.

The “Stir Fry” crew, who previously topped the chart with Culture, now becomes the fifth rap group ever to have at least two chart-topping LPs. They follow the Beastie Boys (four No. 1s), A Tribe Called Quest (two No. 1s), Bone Thugs-N-Harmony (two No. 1s), and D12 (two No. 1s), according to Billboard.

Culture II, which boasts appearances from Drake, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and Travis Scott, earned much of its success through streaming. Of its 199,000 total, 150,000 came from streaming equivalent albums, equating to 225.6 million streams of its songs. Only 38,000 came from traditional sales, and 11,000 from track equivalent album units.

This marks the highest streaming week for an album since Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN., which debuted at No. 1 in May of last year with 227,000 streaming equivalent units of its total 603,000 equivalent album units, translating to 340.6 million streams.

Migos’ Culture also had high streaming figures. Of its 131,000 units, 77,000 came from streaming equivalent albums (115.6 million streams of its songs), 44,000 came from traditional, and 10,000 came from track equivalent albums.

To celebrate their second No. 1, the group will perform on “Saturday Night Live” on March 3. Over the weekend, they also confirmed Glacier Boyz, a joint album with Gucci Mane and Lil Yachty, is on the way.

Elsewhere on the Billboard 200 this week, Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic jolts 10-4 following his big Grammy night, Ed Sheeran’s ÷ drops 3-5, Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. holds at No. 6, Post Malone’s Stoney falls to No. 8, and Khalid’s American Teen rises 15-9. See the full top 10 below.
