Bipolar disorder, substance abuse and public scrutiny after being sucker-punched by his girlfriend online.
Those are just some of the things that Charles Hamilton has faced over the years, but he’s been able to bounce back and triumph with a brand new album.
The project is called Hamilton, Charles, and it’s a 12-song offering with titles like “Oh Well,” “Everyone,” and “Be With You.” It’s also a follow-up to the rapper’s 2015 EP The Black Box.
Perhaps surprisingly, the new album doesn’t contain any features, and on it Hamilton speaks frankly about some of the issues he’s faced.
“I made that decision a while ago,” the Harlem spitter explained during an interview with Pigeons & Planes.
“I’m not gonna hide anything. I don’t feel like I have anything to hide, so now that I’m impacting the mainstream, I might as well continue on that path. With good music comes a lot of pain, so I guess I want people to accept and respect what I’m offering. Hopefully, they can learn from it,” added Charles.
