The Weeknd has been ripping through the charts with his number album, Beauty Behind the Madness; much of the album’s success came from fan’s obsession with the singles “Often,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” and “The Hills.” However, despite the tunes being absolute fire, the Canadian artist has been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit claiming he’d stolen the beat for “The Hills.”

According to a documents obtained by TMZ, Cutting Edge Music states that the beat from “The Hills” was stolen from 2013 film, The Machine.
Like many other copyright infringement lawsuits before his own, The Weeknd must prove that he did not steal anything, which is going to be difficult in this case since one of The Weeknd’s producers admits to the theft. As if admitting guilt isn’t enough, an old tweet has surfaced in the case; the social media mess up came in March, also by one of Weeknd’s producers, giving a shout out to the man behind the soundtrack from “The Machine” film. The beat “might make it 2 the weeknd next album,” said the tweet. “Huge fan of what u did 4 the machine movie.”
#IJS: Just pay up.
Cutting Edge Music wants all profits from “The Hills” sales, but they have yet to come down to an exact number.
