Thursday evening President Obama took his place at the White House podium to address the tragic shooting at an Oregon Community College that claimed the lives of at least 9 people and injured 15 others. He stood before the nation visibly frustrated, while making yet another speech following a mass shooting that disrupted another community within the United States. He said, stressed the importance of gun control laws and urged voters to “get the government to change these laws and to save lives – and to let young people grow up.”

Within his presidency, President Obama has had to address the nation almost a dozen times following a mass shooting. He fears that this has become a norm in the US. He said, “The reporting is routine. My response here at this podium ends up being routine. The conversation in the aftermath of it…We’ve become numb to this.”

He reminded the nation several of the shootings that have happened during his time in the White House, including Newton, Charleston and Lafayette. He said, “I hope and pray that I don’t have to come out again during my tenure as President to offer my condolences to families in these circumstances. But based on my experience as President, I can’t guarantee that. And that’s terrible to say. And it can change.”
