Kim Kardashian Says Kanye West Was Not Defending R. Kelly

Posted by Unknown on 1:24 PM

Kim Kardashian is coming to her husband’s defense once again.

The reality mogul has spoken out following controversial comments Kanye West reportedly made about R. Kelly during his Sunday service on Jan. 13.

During the event, which streamed live via Kris Jenner’s Instagram, West gave his thoughts on several issues, including Lifetime’s highly-rated “Surviving R. Kelly” documentary series, where numerous women allege sexual abuse by the R&B singer.

“Everybody, they want the art from the artist, but anytime they do anything erratic…they just gonna pull up full documentaries on ’em,” said West. “And then they gon’ come with the Michael [Jackson] documentary.”

He continued, “We can enjoy all they music all we want. I thought I wasn’t going to go there today. If we’re gonna tear down artists, let’s go ahead and take da Vincis out the Louvre while we at it. Let’s take down all the art.”

In addition to “Surviving R. Kelly,” Kanye referenced the upcoming Michael Jackson documentary Leaving Neverland. The film, which is set to premiere at Sundance and later air on HBO, centers on two men who allege that the pop star sexually abused them as children.

After Kanye’s comments went viral, many on social media called for his cancelation. His wife took to Twitter in his defense, claiming that he was speaking from his own experience and was not referring to R. Kelly.

“I’m going to nip this in the bud right now, tweeted Kim. “Kanye was speaking about his own experience of everyone quick to say they are cancelling him because of differences in opinion & not being perfect. The analogies were in context to his own experiences, not defending anyone else.”

She emphasized that he was not condoning Kelly’s behavior. “I want to make it very clear, he is not condoning anyone’s actions or unacceptable disgusting behavior,” added Kim. “My husband’s words are being taken out of context due to timing.”

Kanye has collaborated with fellow Chicago native R. Kelly in the past on “To the World” off 2012’s G.O.O.D. Music compilation Cruel Summer. He has also not been afraid to defend controversial figures including Bill Cosby, 6ix9ine, and the late XXXTentacion.
