Jacquees Declares Himself the ‘King of R&B,’ Sparks Debate

Posted by Unknown on 1:42 PM

Jacquees is causing an uproar with his bold declaration.

Taking to Instagram, the “B.E.D.” singer declared himself the “king of R&B.” “I just wanna let everybody know that I’m the king of R&B right now,” said Jacquees. “For this generation…I understand who dun came and who dun did that and that and that. But now it’s my turn. Jacquees the king of R&B. I just heard ’em say it and I been feeling like that.”

His comment sparked backlash from social media and from his peers including Trey Songz and Ty Dolla $ign, who both posted the crying laughing emoji.

The other “Bed” singer, J. Holiday, didn’t take kindly to the claim and called out Jacquees on Instagram. “That bullshit that man said, there’s three kings of R&B,” he said before revealing his list. “The first one sold 20 million on his first album. The second king of R&B is from Chicago. And the third one is from Tappahannock.”

“Four and five right here,” he added, referring to himself and an unidentified man standing next to him.

After seeing J. Holiday’s reaction, R&B veteran Tank joined the conversation. “In terms of him being the king of R&B, that’s like disres—,” he said before stopping short. “Let’s just be mindful of how this shit goes. Ain’t no king. Get your money, man. Love you, Quees.”

He also bestowed R. Kelly with the title. “First R. Kelly is the King of R&B. The accusations don’t disqualify what he’s accomplished!” said Tank. “Second if you can’t go in the studio BY YOURSELF and make a hit record you’re not my king!”

R. Kelly chimed in on the King of R&B title, posting a photo of himself seated in a throne. He captioned it with the crown emoji and the hashtag #bornforthis.
