T.I. Rejects Gucci Mane’s Claim That He Invented Trap Music

Posted by Unknown on 8:40 PM

T.I. and Gucci Mane are vying for the trap music inventor crown. Over the weekend, Guwop claimed that he “invented trap music” with 2005’s Trap House. But Tip disagrees.

The King of the South explained his stance with a Wikipedia screenshot of 2003’s Trap Muzik artwork. “August 19th, 2003,” he wrote. “Birth of Trap Muzik & Only fools dispute facts!!! FOH wit that Christopher Columbus ass… ‘Look what I discovered, even though they was already here ass shit!!!!’ WITCHO GOOD CAPPIN ASS.”

Last year, T.I. also solidified his thoughts on the matter. “A lot of people don’t really know that I created trap music. I didn’t think I got that old,” he told Angie Martinez. “There was no such thing as trap music prior to me. No such thing. It didn’t exist, it was OutKast and crunk, it was Organized Noize and crunk.”

In 2012, Tip also shared a similar sentiment. “I created that. Yes, I did. I coined the term. It was [my] second album, it dropped in 2003,” he told Funkmaster Flex. “Google it. It’s real. After that, there was an entire new genre of music created, an open lane for each of you to do what you do, and live your lives on TV and be accepted by the masses. The masses have accepted you because I opened the door and you walked through it. Don’t forget who opened that door.”

Continuing this, T.I. also posted a photo of himself marching. Honoring 50 years since Martin Luther King Jr.’s funeral, Tip captioned this flick: “When you get through cappin for da gram & Buuuullshittin round’ we’ll be out here makin a difference!!!”

T.I. and Gucci Mane have previously collaborated on a series of tracks, including “Plain Jane,” “10 Times,” and “Freeze Me.” Up next, Gucci Mane is looking to release his Glacier Boyz project with Migos and Lil Yachty this week. He is also planning his next solo album, The Evil Genius.
