Meek Mill could have a bail hearing soon.
The Philadelphia rapper’s legal team tried to get the Pennsylvania Superior Court to release him from prison on emergency bail after he was sentenced to 2-4 years for probation violations by Judge Genece Brinkley. Although the higher court denied the motion, they have ordered Judge Brinkley to rule on the bail petition “without further delay,” according to reports.
Jordan Siev, a representative for the rapper born Robert Williams, called this a victory. “We’re pleased that the Superior Court took immediate action to direct the Court of Common Pleas to decide on the application for bail without further delay,” Siev told TMZ. “We remain hopeful that Mr. Williams will be promptly released on bail.”
On Nov. 17, Judge Brinkley canceled a bail hearing for Meek Mill. The court later said the hearing was scheduled through a clerical error.
Meek Mill’s legal team has been critical of Judge Brinkley, saying that she has behaved inappropriately. They have also reportedly filed a motion to remove her from the case.
JAY-Z, Rick Ross, Drake, Colin Kaepernick, and Reverend Al Sharpton have all spoken up in support of Meek, who is currently incarcerated. “He is representative of something far more than his stardom,” said Rev. Sharpton. “He is a symbol of the abuse of the system that will violate you over nothing and end up ruining the potential and the ability to move forward in life.”
It is unclear when Judge Brinkley will hold the bail hearing.
