The Oakland Raiders are in the market for a running back for next season and according to reports, the team has reached out to Marshawn Lynch about getting him to come out of retirement. The team has had internal talks about going after Adrian Peterson in free agency and that is still a possibility but the news of them inquiring about Lynch certainly changes things.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Josina Anderson reported the news this morning.

Lynch may be retired but he is still only 30 years old, the same age as Peterson but without the knee injuries.

As of now, the Raiders would have to trade for Lynch’s rights from the Seahawks because they technically still own his rights. According to Schefter however, Seattle general manager John Schneider and Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie have a long-standing relationship, which could lead to the Seahawks just outright releasing Lynch instead of doing a trade.

“It could really happen,” one source familiar with the situation said Friday.

At the end of the day it will all come down to Lynch and his desire to get back on the field. We all know he is a very unpredictable guy so all this news today is still a long way from him ever playing again.
