NFL Free Agency: Jay Culter Dropped; Tony Romo, Alshon Jeffrey, DeSean Jackson, Brock Osweiler Moving

Posted by DJ Yeroc on 6:15 PM

It’s the beginning of NFL free agency and we already have some big names on the move.

As expected, the Dallas Cowboys are moving on from Tony Romo after an incredible rookie year from quarterback Dak Prescott while Romo was injured.  It was first announced that the Cowboys are releasing Romo, but now there are reports that the Cowboys are looking to trade the veteran QB.  The Houston Texans and Denver Broncos are reportedly interested.  The New York Jets have been mentioned as well.  Whether he goes by release or via trade, Romo knows his time in Dallas is done, and posted a message to the fans on his Twitter page.

On the first day of free agency last year, Brock Osweiler agreed to a four-year, $72 million contract with the Houston Texans.  On the first day of free agency this year, the Texans have decided to trade Osweiler, a 2018 second-round draft pick, a 2017 sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for a 2017 fourth-round pick.  Things didn’t work out between Osweiler and the Texans, and as I mentioned above, they’re interested in Romo.  The Browns have a lot of money to work with and are willing to eat ‘at least half’ of the $16 million due to Osweiler this year if they can trade him for a late 2017 pick, and a 2018 third-round pick.  It’s a risk and basketball type move as they’re reportedly trying to gather up a bunch of draft picks to give to New England in order to get Jimmy Garoppolo.  Got it? Good, stay tuned.

After a couple years with the Washington Redskins, DeSean Jackson is on the move again but is leaving the NFC East this time.  The wide receiver agreed to a three-year, $35-million contract that includes $20 million guaranteed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Former Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffreys is on the move to greener pastures (I joke), agreeing to a one-year, $14 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.
