NCAA: After Just One Day Of March Madness, Less Than 1% Of Brackets Remain Perfect

The first day of the NCAA tournament didn’t have many of the upsets or dramatic finishes we have come to expect during March Madness. Despite most of the favored teams winning though, less than 1% of brackets submitted remain perfect after 16 games were played. You can expect that number to change on Friday when the second day of games get going.

Only two lower seeds won on Thursday. Middle Tennessee State, which was the #12 seed when they beat #5 Minnesota, although Middle Tennessee State was actually favored to win. Xavier, who was seeded #11 beat #6 Maryland but again, that wasn’t necessarily some huge upset. Usually everyone’s brackets get busted wen the upsets happen, not the other way around.

The 154,283 perfect brackets left represents less than one percent of the total submitted to ESPN. There are 16 more games on Friday and I’d be shocked if even one person in the country makes it out of today with a perfect bracket.
