NFL: Mohamed Sanu Attempts To Blame Halftime Show For Falcons Collapse In Super Bowl 51

Halftime during a normal NFL game usually only lasts for about 15-20 minutes max. In the Super Bowl, because of performances and advertising money from commercials, the halftime can sometimes last up to an hour. Now, is that something that can throw a team off? Sure. Players become used to a routine on game days but does that excuse a team for blowing a 28-3 lead and losing the big game? Absolutely not but Mohamed Sanu would like to try and convince you otherwise.

Sanu was speaking with NFL.com, where he was asked about the extended halftime and if it had any effect on the team since they went into the half leading 21-3.

“It definitely (affected us) because usually halftime is only like 15 minutes, so when you’re not on the field for an hour, it’s like going to work out, having a great workout, sitting on the couch for an hour and then trying to work out again.”

OK, there are so many things wrong with what Sanu said. The Falcons actually came out after the half and put together a very easy scoring drive, which took the lead up to 28-3. If an extended halftime really bothered them that much you would assume they wouldn’t have played well to start the second half. Sanu personally only had two catches in the entire game, despite talking alot of smack during it. Perhaps if he performed a little better the outcome may have been different.

Trying to place blame on Lady Gaga and the extra long show is a weak move on his part. There is no getting around that his team and coaching staff completely froze up and collapsed in the second half, which gave Tom Brady the slight opening he needed to pull off the amazing come back.

The reality is the Falcons offense did absolutely nothing in the second half after the opening drive, which led to their defense being on the field way too much as Brady wore them down. Sanu is a good receiver but his statement shows someone looking for excuses instead of being honest with himself. The second half collapse will be the legacy of the Falcons until they get back to the Super Bowl and win it.
