Despite having a couple of critically acclaimed releases under his belt already, Chance The Rapper still hasn’t dropped his debut album.

He’s working on it right now.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, the Chicago rhymer said it’s important for him to make the new album sound different from his mixtapes, since people have confused releases like Acid Rap and Coloring Book for actual LPs.

“My mixtapes have been confused for albums for a long time, so it has to be something different,” he explained. “Something that you can consider an album. It might not be a physical or a disc or something but an album that comes with its own live show is important.”

The 23-year-old also talked about his writing and recording process, and being mindful of how people will listen to the new material.

“I don’t know exactly the format every time when I’m making something, but a lot of times I have an idea,” said Chano. “And I think what I’m working on right now is an album.”

“But I also think it’s in two parts. I think that when I’m making music, usually I’m writing it, because I want you to listen to in the car, and I’m also thinking of the day we finally meet, and I get to play it for you in front of a bunch of people, and we get to sing along,” he added.

You can listen to Chance’s full interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra below, where he also talks about Kanye West’s influence on his music and overall career.
