Team USA soccer player, Megan Rapinoe, made a huge statement today as she took a knee during the playing of the National Anthem against the Chicago Red Stars.
She made it clear that she was absolutely showing support to Colin Kaepernick in lieu of the recent string of verbal attacks on him due to his decision not to stand during the playing of the National Anthem because he feels that his people are not given equal treatment in the land of the free, home of the brave.
Rapinoe says:
“Being a gay American, I know what it means to look at the flag and not have it protect all of your liberties. It was something small that I could do and something that I plan to keep doing in the future and hopefully spark some meaningful conversation around it. It’s important to have white people stand in support of people of color on this.”
Very well said. I hope this takes serious flight so that it can do what it was supposed to originally. Bring awareness to the issues.
