After being on the run for 21 years, the leading Rwandan fugitive, Ladislas Ntaganzwa, was found and arrested on Genocide charges. Ntaganzwa was arrested on Monday night after having a $5 million bounty on him. He was one out of the nine fugitives wanted in the 1994 genocide which left over 800,000 people dead. The events were eventually put into a film in 2004, Hotel Rwanda starring Don Cheadle.

According to, John Bosco Siboyintore who is head of the genocide tracking unit at Rwanda’s Public Prosecution Authority and Richard Muhumuza who is Rwanda’s prosecutor general, the fugitive was found in the eastern Congo city of Goma.

During the time of Rwanda, Ntaganzwa was the mayor of Nyakizu. He allegedly helped plan the horrible massacre of over 20,000 Tutsis at Cyahinda parish. They said he was speaking through a microphone telling who should be killed and also killing at least five people himself. While other fugitives are still at large, this is a big finding. Hopefully the others will be caught soon.
