Florida Teen Shot to Rap Lyrics

Accidents happen, but this is absolutely a worst-case scenario. A Florida 22 Year Old Shoots and Kills Teen To Waka Flocka Lyrics from the song “Bustin’ At Em” and is now facing a slew of charges, not to mention the wrenching loss. But let’s not aim at the obvious here…

22 Year Old Shoots and Kills Teen To Waka Flocka Lyrics when Rodney Clay Patrick Jr. waved a gun he thought was unloaded and suddenly killed Douglas Trey Winslow who was 17 years old. The two were reportedly vibing out when Rodney started spitting one of his “favorite” Waka songs “Bustin’ At Em” and Douglas joined him. Soon however the fun turned frightening as he decided to pick up a gun to complete the dramatization of the song’s lyrics. Rodney’s story is as follows:

“I handed my little brother my gun, and I didn’t know it was loaded, and he shot himself in the head,” Patrick told 911 dispatchers. “It was a Colt, it was my 45. He just wanted to see it, he thought it was so cool. I thought I had cleared it and everything.”

Police however don’t believe Rodney’s description of the events and insist he pulled the trigger. They see 22 Year Old Shoots and Kills Teen To Waka Flocka Lyrics when the gun he thought was unloaded–was not, and discharged when he actually aimed it.

“We’ve got a gun being waved around. We’ve got the safety being clicked on and off, a loaded gun. A reasonable person knows or should know that action can result in somebody’s death,” said Gary Beatty, Brevard County prosecutor. Patrick is being charged with tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance. He faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.

This is not a time to blame Hip Hop. This situation is however another reason to think critically about the power of choice and the effects of gun culture in this country–which Hip Hop plays a part, but largely has everything to do with the intersections of politics, lifestyle and entertainment values. Were these two young men living a lifestyle reflecting of Waka’s or were they engaging in a fantasy? What informs decision making to aim and fire a gun–loaded or not at someone for fun? Is there something in our society making people like Rodney feel like “acting out” a Waka Flocka song with a real gun is live?

Peace to the families who need that strength right now. And don’t do this at home!!!

RIP
