UPDATE on Breaking News: Police Shooting In Brooklyn. It’s confirmed that BOTH of the officers shot today in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn from a gunman who suddenly ambushed the front passenger window, have died at Woodhull Hospital. Details have now surfaced from the gunman’s alleged IG posts a few hours before he intended to kill one or more officers in retaliation of Garner and others for the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams calls shooting a terrible tragic set of circumstances in the “senseless attack.”
UPDATE On Breaking News: Police Shooting in Brooklyn
Brooklyn Borough President went on to say:
“When you attack a police officer you’re also attacking the symbol of our public safety. You make it hard for the rest of the country looking at us for an example.”
He and Mayor Bill de Blasio are on their way to the scene. The mayor is also set to make an official statement later this evening.
Sources say a person believed to be the gunman posted a message on IG three hours before the officers were shot stating,
“I’m Putting Wings on Pigs Today,” adding “They Take 1 Of Ours…Let’s Take 2 of Theirs,” and signing off with, “This May Be My Final Post.”
It’s said that the gunman was a fugitive who had just murdered his girlfriend in Baltimore Saturday morning. After the gunman opened fire on the officers, it’s said he ran into the subway station and killed himself as other police officers ran to engage him.
It’s not confirmed whether the officers in discussion were on routine patrol or there for a specific reason. G Train subway service on the MTA has been suspended as a result of the investigation around Myrtle and Tompkins Avenues in Brooklyn.
