Judy Clarke has made a name for herself by defending some of America’s most infamous criminals. Clarke has represented Susan Smith-who drowned her own children, Unibomber Theodore Kaczynski- who killed three people, Eric Rudolph- who killed two people, and most recently Jared Loughner- who killed 19 people on the day he shot Rep. Gabby Giffords. All of the cases mentioned could have received the death penalty, but thanks to Clarke’s skills her clients face life in prison instead. When Tsarnaev begins his legal trial, many legal experts believe that Clarke will in fact represent him. She has stated, “I got a dose of understanding human behavior and I learned what the death penalty does to us. I don’t think it is a secret that I oppose the death penalty.” We’ll have to wait and see if she is going to rep Tsarnaev or not.
