Tara Acetta was enjoying a summer night in Brooklyn and was having a few drinks with friends. She and her friends decided to go and take a dive in one of their pools after leaving a local bar. Well she dove into the wrong side of the pool and snapped her neck when she dove into the shallow end. She is now trying to regain control of her body in a rehab center. It seemed like Tara Accetta had it all figured out, with an acceptance letter from a prestigious New York college in her pocket and big plans for her future, when a harmless midnight swim turned her world upside down.
On the night of July 5, the 19-year-old girl from Brooklyn and three of her friends were having a few beers at a local bar. The girls were enjoying their last summer of freedom before starting college, and they were determined to make the most of it.
Accetta, a statuesque brunette with a luminous smile, graduated from James Madison High School in Brooklyn and was accepted into New York University, where she planned to study education.
The teen celebrated the Fourth of July splashing in a friend’s backyard pool, and so she and her girlfriends headed back to the same house for a midnight swim the following day, the New York Daily News reported
The teen stood in the darkness by the four-foot shallow end of the inground pool, planning to dive in and reach the nine-foot deep end with a few well-practiced strokes like she has done countless times before.
That night, however, something went horribly awry.
