Mayor Bloomberg Comments On Why Rikers Island Was Not Evacuated

Earlier today, we reported that Rikers Island is not being evacuated for Hurricane Irene. In his press conference this evening, a very tired Mayor Bloomberg answered a short and quick response when asked why the island was not evacuated.

“There is no reason to evacuate Rikers Island. It is higher than the flood zone areas and it is perfectly safe.”-Mayor Bloomberg
