Nicki Minaj’s ‘Chun-Li’ Enters Hot 100 Top 10

Posted by Unknown on 2:27 PM

Nicki Minaj kicks her way into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Chun-Li.” After entering the chart at No. 92, the “Street Fighter”-inspired anthem catapults to No. 10 in its first full tracking week.

This marks Nicki’s 16th top 10 overall, the most among female rappers. She also nabs the biggest jump on the Hot 100 since Katy Perry’s “Roar” went from No. 85 to No. 2 in 2013. “Chun-Li” is also No. 14 on the Streaming Songs chart and No. 4 in Digital Song sales.

“Barbie Tingz,” which was released the same day as “Chun-Li,” experienced a huge leap too. The track went from No. 83 to No. 25 on the Hot 100, also reaching No. 19 on Streaming Songs chart and No. 7 on Digital Song Sales.

“Chun-Li” and “Barbie Tingz” are singles off Minaj’s forthcoming album, her first since 2014’s The Pinkprint. The project is expected to arrive at some point this year, though a release date and title have not been announced. Nicki has deemed it a “classic” already.

“I’ve seen my fans grow up for the last 10 years, which is crazy,” she explained last year. “I’ve been following some of them for eight years on Twitter. Imagine that. There are kids who have gone to college tweeting me their freaking degrees when they graduate, or tweeting me pictures of their babies and I remember when they had just come out of high school. I’m just like, ‘Yo.’ It’s a beautiful thing. I don’t take that for granted. That’s why I’m not rushing the album, because it means so much to me. I have to release a classic at this point.”

Elsewhere on the Billboard Hot 100, Drake’s “Nice for What” reigns for a second week, while “God’s Plan” remains at No. 2. Elsewhere, Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign go “Psycho” at No. 4, BlocBoy JB and Drizzy still “Look Alive” at No. 6, and Lil Dicky and Chris Brown turn their song into “Freaky Friday” at No. 8. Rounding out the list is Cardi B’s “I Like It” featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin.
