Colin Kaepernick Says Meek Mill Is in ‘Good Spirits’

Posted by Unknown on 4:21 PM

Meek Mill is in “good spirits,” according to Colin Kaepernick.

The former NFL quarterback was recently in contact with the Philly rapper, who was sentenced to 2-4 years in prison. “Spoke to Meek Mill & he wanted ppl to know regardless of his unjust situation, he’s in good spirits & humbled by the support the people have shown him,” he tweeted. “We’ll continue to fight against the harsh sentencing practices that have affected Meek & millions of other POC for generations.”

Last week, Kaepernick announced his support for Meek on Twitter. “Sadly there are Black folks going through the same radicalized injustice(s) within the justice system that Meek Mill has experienced for over a decade EVERY SINGLE DAY,” he tweeted. “This requires more than just gradual reform in laws–It requires a swift overhaul.”

In August 2016, the former Super Bowl quarterback explained why he started to kneel during the anthem. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he said. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Kaepernick, who is no longer in the NFL due to what he believes is collusion among team owners, has since become celebrated for his work as an activist. GQ recently named him Citizen of the Year.

Meek Mill’s legal team is fighting his 2-4 year prison sentence. They claim that the judge has displayed inappropriate conduct during the duration of the case and they have reportedly filed a motion to have her removed.
