Dylan Roof the man who walked into a church and killed nine people back in July of 2015 is now seeking the death penalty by federal prosecutors. He has been charged with 33 federal offenses. The offenses include hate crime charges for allegedly targeting his victims on the basis of their race and religion.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch released a statement saying,
“The nature of the alleged crime and the resulting harm compelled this decision,”
Rood opened fire while people inside of the church were at a bible class. He has since been charged with murder. Charleston County Solicitor Scarlett Wilson made a statement last year that she was going to seek the death penalty in the state’s case. The case is scheduled to go to trail in January. The crazy part of this story is that Dylann is not known for being a violent person. He was a high school drop out.
