With just a few weeks away from a new year, President Barack Obama is exercising forgiveness. Obama has truly been doing a lot to help out the people of the United States as they face hard times. Just a few weeks ago, Obama helped a slew of gradates by giving $28 million in loan forgiveness. Now he is trying to work on pushing to reform the United States criminal justice system. Obama is clearly for the people.
So far, President Obama has pardoned two prisoners and reduced the sentence of 95. The sentences include those of people who have nonviolent drug offenses. Most of them were put in prison for cocaine and marijuana possession with the intent to distribute.
Obama pardoned a man in Ohio who was on probation for “making counterfeit obligations.” A Virginia woman was also sent to prison for aiding bank fraud. Pardons are a little harder to come by since they totally forgive prisoners for the crimes that they have committed. Obama said that the goal is to “create a criminal justice system that is more fair, more even-handed, more proportionate, and is smarter about how we reduce crime.”
