Watch Logic, Khalid, & Alessia Cara Perform ‘1-800-273-8255’ at Grammys

Posted by Unknown on 12:27 AM

Logic brought his suicide prevention anthem to the Grammys on Sunday (Jan. 28). Joined by Alessia Cara, Khalid, and several survivors, the Everybody MC delivered a gripping performance of “1-800-273-8255” during Music’s Biggest Night.

The song doubled as a tribute to Chester Bennington, who died of suicide last year. It was performed immediately after the annual in memoriam tribute, which ended with the Linkin Park frontman. From there, Bobby Tarantino stood in the spotlight, before he was joined by his co-stars.

Wearing a hoodie that read “You Are Not Alone,” Logic also ended the performance with a motivational message for women and for people in countries around the world. It was a not-so-subtle nod to the Time’s Up movement and President Donald Trump’s reported “shithole” comments about other nations.

“Black is beautiful,” said the 28-year-old MC. “Hate is ugly. Women are as precious and they are stronger than any man I have ever met. To them, I say, ‘Stand tall and crush all predators under the weight of your heart, which is full of the love that they will never take away from you. Be not scared to use your voice, especially in instances like these.'”

He continued, proclaiming that the performance was also dedicated to “all the beautiful countries, filled with culture, diversity, and thousands of years of history.” He added: “You are not shitholes,” though the message was censored on television. “Bring us your tired, your poor, and any immigrant who seeks refuge,” he added, “for together, we can build not just a better country, but a world that is destined to be united.”

Logic didn’t win any Grammys this year, but “1-800-273-8255” was nominated twice for Song of the Year and Best Music Video. Meanwhile, Alessia Cara took home Best New Artist.
