Two St. Louis cops shot and killed an armed man Friday night. In a statement release by officials, they said the suspect charged at the officers while holding a knife.

In a released statement, the incident happened at night when the mother of 23 year old Thaddeus McCarroll called the police station and asked if they could remove him from her home. Allegedly McCarroll was holding a knife and locked her out of the house while mentioning “black revolution” and talking about taking a “journey”. After the police arrived, they realized back up was needed. Around 10:30 p.m. they called in the force’s Tactical Operations Unit. The cops began to negotiate with McCarroll but it didn’t work. “After approximately one hour of negotiations, the subject exited the residence armed with a knife in one hand, and a bible in the other” according to police.
The officers tried to get the man to put the knife down, they let off a “less lethal round” at him but again that didn’t work. McCarroll then charged at the cops and fearing for their lives, they took shots which ended up killing him. “The subject immediately charged the officers at a full run with the knife still in hand… fearing for their safety, two officers shot the subject multiple times.”
According to Jon Belmar the Chief of Police, the two cops had no other choice. “The officers resorted to less lethal force to try and bring the incident to a safe conclusion with no loos of life, but this individual made the decision to refuse these attempts, and charge at the officers with a deadly weapon.”
