The University of Florida is charging the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity with obscene behavior,public intoxication,theft,causing physical or other harm and damage to property.
Friday, The University of Florida suspended Zeta Beta Tau because some of it’s members decided to hurl verbally abusive slurs and spit at a group of disabled military veterans at a Lake town Wharf Resort in Panama City, Florida. The military veterans where at the Resort for their annual Warrior Group retreat meant to honor their service. Zeta Beta Tau was having their spring formal for The University of Florida and Emory University members.
The military veterans and on lookers said the Zeta Beta Tau members were extremely intoxicated, urinating on flags and being harshly verbally abusive.
Linda Cope, founder of the Warrior Group said:
“They were urinating off of balconies, vomiting off of balconies. They could see the men and women below were there with the retreat. They had on hats and shirts with logos.”
After the harassment Cope not only sent a detailed letter to The University of Florida President explaining the torment that the war veterans faced from it’s students. But the law enforcement was called but made no criminal charges. There was no evidence of what the Fraternity did so the officers could not hold anyone accountable for the incident.
The University of Florida suspended the Fraternity and they may face longer suspension if found guilty. Zeta Beta Tau already was on probation for an hazing incident in the fall semester. Things are not looking good for Zeta Beta Tau at The University of Florida. Luckily, the Emory students got a clean break because Emory University President did not hold the students accountable since there was no evidence.
The Zeta Beta Tau leaders at The University of Florida are trying to keep their name in good standing by giving cash donations to Cope for her small grassroots charity. As well as hiring their own private investigator to find out what really happened. The University apologized to the Warrior Group and made them aware that the University will take care of this incident completely.
