Recently New York Magazine ran that story about a high school student who made $72 million by trading stocks.. Well… New York Magazine f**ked up and f**ked up bad. The million dollar kid everyone has been raving about ,is 17 year old Mohammed Islam, and he has already came out and admitted he made the whole story up. The Mohammed Islam Story Is A Lie and His net worth wasn’t just “a bit blown out of proportion”, it was completely fabricated.
The New York Observer caught up with Islam and got the real story.
Observer: What was your first contact with the New York magazine reporter?
Mohammed Islam: My friend’s father worked at New York magazine and he had the reporter contact me. Then she [Jessica Pressler] called me.
You seem to be quoted saying “eight figures.” That’s not true, is it?
No, it is not true.
Is there ANY figure? Have you invested and made returns at all?
No.

Oopss…that’s no good. It was here that it was discovered that Mohammed Islam Story Is A Lie.
It turns out to be that the only trading Islam has actually done has been pressed in his high school’s investment club. The reporter behind the original story, Jessica Pressler, says her part was very second guessing and skeptical but that’s not how it was worded.
