Brooklyn-bred emcee Talib Kweli joined the rising number of protesters in Ferguson, Missouri. Just like the others standing united, he was verbally attacked and threatened by police, to say the least. According to REVOLT, marching alongside was activist and noted journalist Rosa Clemente, poet Jessica Care Moore, and members of the Fellowship of Reconciliation and Dream Defenders. Details on their experiences after the jump.

Within only 24 hours of his visit, Kweli released this statement:

“Although separated by thousands of miles, the plight of the people of Ferguson and the Gaza Strip share too much in common for people of conscience to ignore. Michael Brown, an African American youth, could just have easily been a Palestinian youth mercilessly shot by an Israeli soldier.”

Clemente also released a statement of her encounter with police in the troubled city.

“Surrounded by all types of police [we were] told to lie down and put our hands up. We complied and we were told if we did not stop moving we would be shot. I tried to record but the cop had his finger on the trigger. I could feel Talib’s hand on my back and Jessica behind me.”

“We laid there until one Black officer said, ‘Let them go, we got who we wanted.’ … This is a war zone, a military occupation and our children are the cannon fodder.”
